I rode the Choots to work today, hoping to give it a decent testing out before taking it to France next week. The ride into work was pretty smooth, no issues. On the way home, I took advantage of the longer days and good weather and detoured up to the top of Mt. Tam. The bike climbed pretty well actually -- certainly good enough, and damn fine for a bike that packs up into a friggin' suitcase!

The "Choots" - Custom Ti S&S Travel Bike
I took a leap of faith and ordered a custom titanium frame from a factory in China. Basically I traded a few AutoCAD drawings with them and wired them some money and crossed my fingers. Four weeks later, it showed up. The frame is awesome. I had them install S&S couplers on the bike for easy packing and travel. I built it up with my old SRAM force gruppo and it is a reasonably light and stiff bike for travelling. I have a business trip to France coming up so this will be a good beta test for our vacation to the Italian Alps this summer.

Amgen Tour Stage 3 Start
Went down to the Stage 3 start of the Amgen Tour of California in SF this morning. The rains finally cleared and the peleton had a very nice ride down the coast. Levi tried to mirror his attack on Bonny Doon from last year, but this time he was well marked by DZ Nutz and Mick Rogers. DZ won the stage but nearly got pipped at the line by Rogers due to a premature celebration. Levi came across third, and the GC is now Zabriskie, Rogers and Levi. Nice ride by all three, but I think Levi has to be disappointed he was outkicked at the end.
Here are some photos from this morning.
